Global Drum Project

Saw the Global Drum Project last night featuring Mickey Hart and Zakir Hussain with Sikiru Adepoju and Giovanni Hidalgo. The solo performances were awesome as these guys are just amazing on their instruments. According to the program Zakir is the preeminent tabla player nad Indian musician of his generation. Giovanni Hidalgo tore up the congas, bongos and timbales. He also played a very cool cajon solo at the end. The cajon had snares which I hadn't heard before. Sikiru Adepoju is a master of the talking drum -- also a very cool instrument that I haven't been exposed to very much. Check out the link I included; it has samples of his music. You can google all of these guys and find lots of stuff on the web about them.

...and you know Mickey Hart. There were twirlers in the seats behind us near the aisle.
