SFJAZZ

got the mailer for the SFJAZZ spring jazz season. There are some
interesting artists on the bill (including quotes from the mailer):

ICP Orchestra
Led by pianist Misha Mengelberg, "one of the daddies
of the Dutch experimental jazz scene" -- The New York
Times, Amsterdam's "Instant Composers Pool" has been
combining and combusting musical genres for nearly 40
years. As the chicago Tribune wrote of a 2004 show:
"If there was a facet of jazz experssion that [ICP]
didn't address..., it probably wasn't worth
mentioning.

Enrico Rava and Stefano Bollani; Enrico Peiranunzi
"Rava's tone is plush velvet [and] his ideas are
impossible to anticipate" -- Jazz Times. Hailed as
"the patriarch of Italian jazz" (Jazz Times),
trumpeter flugel hornist Enrico Rava, returns to SF
with pianist and countryman Stefano Bollani, a
collaborator on Rava's spellbinding new CD "Tati".
Sharing this all Italian bill is Enrico Peiranunzi, "a
luminously lyrical pianist, with a constant flow of
ideas" (Nat Hentoff).

Robert Glasper
"There isn't a young musician with more buzz at the
moment than Glasper." -- The New York Times. Fresh
from the release of his eagerly awaited Blue Note
debut CD, Canvas, New York pianist Robert Glasper is
rapidly becoming a national phenomenon. "Robert
Glasper has some of what we all need," The New York
Times wrote, "percussive intensity, fresh ideas,
improvisatory logic. He's one to keep an eye on."
