A friend who is a guitarist (and very good) is crazy about Kurt Rosenwinkel. He recommends The Next Step as a good first step.

Sigin' and Cryin'

OK, one more post today. Last one, I promise. I just feel compelled to ask -- who likes Horace Silver's Sighin' and Cry'in? Raise your hands. Can someone explain why this quintessentially Silver piece is so good? maybe I just did.

missed phases

Because my posting has been so sporadic my log has completely skipped over the Kenny Garrett and Robert Glasper phases. Kenny -- Songbook and Standard of Language.
Robert -- Canvas.

latest obsession: Dave Holland 5: Critical Mass

They've done it again. I was quite obsessed with Extended Play. "Critical Mass" is on the same level. Awesome arrangements, amazing interplay, air tight, cool tunes. I especially like
Vicissitudes, The Leak and Lucky Seven. Enough musical energy to excite every atom of your being. -- Dave Holland Recordings
