Nica's Book
Ya know Monk's tune "Pannonica" or Horace Silver's tune "Nica's Dream"? The names of these tunes and many others honor a women, Pannonica de Koenigswarter, who was a special friend to many of the Jazz's greatest artists starting in the mid 1950s throught to her death in 1988.
This week I found a book (published 2008) that represents a great legacy of her relationship with the music and her Jazz musician friends:
The book's forward and especially the intro by Nadine will tell you why this woman deserves to have tunes named after her. The rest of the book is a fascinating and collectively revealing compilation of photos and quotes from her jazz musician friends. The quotes are in answer to her question: "If you had 3 wishes..."
