Kenny Werner's latest - Lawn Chair Society

picked it up today.
kenny, brian blade, scott colley, dave douglas, chris potter -- what a great group of musicians. produced by lenny picket. compositions by kenny and lenny. this CD mixes some great straight ahead jazz with creative use of electronic rhythms, blurbles and splerks (to borrow their words). like it. like it a lot.

need to mention my obsession with the tune The 13th Day on Kenny's Lawn Chair CD. Yes, an awesome tune. Thank you, Kenny.

Ben Allison at the Green Mill 3/3/07

Colleen and I saw the Ben Allison group at the Green Mill in Chicago last Sat. Tunes from the new CD, Cowboy Justice. really great stuff, but I don't think the event was managed very well. who am I to say, right? it was advertised as Ben Allison, 4-midnight. get there and it's 3 50 min sets. after the set we heard Ben said something like, "the next set will be exactly like this one". an obvious attempt to cycle the crowd. they were only charging a $12 cover. charge a little more, play 2 longer sets and advertise it as such. i bought the CD at the bar. Colleen liked it too.
